Agnieszka Holland was born in Warsaw, Poland and graduated from FAMU, in Prague, after which she joined the group of young directors, “the filmmakers of moral unrest,” associated with her mentor, the acclaimed Andrzej Wajda. Her dozens of films and television projects have earned great critical acclaim, including a Golden Globe, multiple Academy Award and Emmy nominations, and her work has premiered and won awards at festivals worldwide including Toronto, New York, Telluride, Venice and Berlin and often deal with issues of politics, faith and mysticism and pose the question of how we morally deal with critical situations.
